What this app does, and what it leaves out.

jot'd·food is a food tracker. Some of what it leaves out matters more than what it includes, and you should be able to read that here before you download anything.

What it leaves out

What it does show you

Here are the numbers the app shows you.

All of these are on by default, so you will see them the first time you open the app, and the calorie total is the number each day leads with. If seeing these numbers is not something you want right now, that matters more than anything else we can tell you about the app, and this is the app telling you so before you open it.

You can change what the app shows you, including turning calories off. Settings lets you pick which values it displays, and turning calories off removes the number from the screens that show it: the day total, each entry you log, the week view, the meal screens, and the charts. It stays off until you turn it back on.

Three limits on that, stated plainly. The app always keeps at least one value switched on, so it cannot be set to show no numbers at all. Where you are editing a food's own nutrition, the calorie field stays visible, because a food cannot be saved without one. And turning calories off hides the number, it does not stop the app recording it, so a copy of your log that you download still contains it.

Who it is for

jot'd·food is for people 16 and older.

It is built for someone who wants to keep track of what they eat without the accounting grind that usually comes with it. It is not a medical device, it is not a treatment tool, and it does not give clinical or nutritional advice.

If you are working with a clinician or a dietitian, the list above is there so you can show it to them and decide together whether this app is a good fit for you. We would rather you make that decision here than after you have started logging.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, help is available. The National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline is 1-866-662-1235 (Mon–Fri, 9am–7pm ET). Any time, you can also call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). The app also includes support resources in its Settings screen.

Your data

What you log is stored for you, never copied for us, and never sold. Right now your log lives on your device. That means only you hold it, and only you can lose it, which is why you can always download a copy of your food log as a CSV, at any time. That is never behind a paywall.
