Back to jot'd·foodjot'd·food (operated by Jotd LLC) is built on a simple principle: your data is your data whether you pay or not. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. We've tried to write it in plain language. If something is unclear, contact us at support@justjotd.com.
This version covers jot'd·food's initial release: a free, device-only app. Your food log lives on your own device; we run no user accounts, and your entries are never sent to our servers. Features that change this picture, optional accounts with cross-device sync and AI-assisted parsing of typed entries, are not part of this release. When they ship, this policy will be updated and republished.
We are ad-free. We do not show ads, we do not build advertising profiles, and we never share or sell your data for advertising. That posture shapes everything below.
All of the above is stored locally on your device (see Section 3). We do not receive it.
Your data is used for one thing only: to run the app on your device, so you can review your history, plan meals, and build shopping lists. Because your entries stay on your device, we do not use them for any other purpose.
We do not use your data for advertising — there is no advertising in jot'd·food.
Your data is held in your browser/app's localStorage on the device where it was entered.
We never transmit your logged history to jot'd's servers — in this release your logged
history does not leave your device. (Your own device's operating-system or browser backup/sync, for
example iCloud or Chrome sync, which you control, may copy that local data off the device. That is
outside jot'd's systems and never reaches us.)
One exception — food lookups. When you search for a food to attach nutrition information, the food name you type is sent to jot'd's server and forwarded to the USDA FoodData Central database (a US-government nutrition database) to fetch nutrition data for that food. jot'd does not store your search text, and it is sent onward to USDA without your logged history or your device's IP address. The search runs as you type, so the term leaves your device whenever you search, whether or not you then pick a USDA result. The same suggestion list also draws on your saved foods and jot'd's built-in food database, which live on your device and are searched with no network request. Only when you log a food without typing a search, for example re-logging a recent food or a recipe from your lists, does nothing leave your device. Your logged entries themselves are never transmitted.
The app itself is served to your device over HTTPS by our hosting provider (Vercel). Serving the app does not transmit your logged entries to us.
We take reasonable technical precautions. No system is perfectly secure. Because your data stays on your device in this release, the main risks to it are the security of your own device and any backup service you have enabled. If we ever become aware of a breach of any personal data we hold, we will notify affected users without undue delay and within the timeframe required by applicable law.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising. Full stop. In this release your logged food history stays on your device. The only data that leaves your device is a food-search term when you look up a food (see Section 3); the third parties below receive that, and nothing else about you:

There is no ad network in this table because jot'd·food has no ads.
Your data stays until you remove it. Because it lives on your device, your history remains available to you for as long as you keep it there — you can log for years and it is always there.
One exception, and it deletes rather than keeps. Unsaved drafts (Section 1) are temporary by design: the app deletes a draft when you save or discard the form, deletes any still held 14 days after you last had that form open, deletes one it can no longer reopen, and keeps at most 20 at a time. Nothing you have saved is ever removed automatically.
Deleting your data is immediate and in your hands. You can edit or delete individual entries, or clear everything, at any time from within the app, with no waiting period and no dark-pattern prompts designed to talk you out of it. Your eating history is yours to keep or erase. Removing the app, or clearing its storage in your browser/device settings, also removes the data held on that device.
Because your data stays on your device and we hold no server-side copy, these rights are ones you exercise directly in the app rather than by request to us.
Right to know, right to delete, right to opt out of "sale"/"sharing." We do not sell or share personal information, and in this release we hold no personal information on our servers, so these are satisfied. The app does not currently meet the CCPA/CPRA thresholds for a covered business, so the statute does not yet apply; this California section is provided as a courtesy and takes on legal force only if the app later crosses one of those thresholds.
jot'd·food is offered in the United States and is not directed to users in the EU or UK. To the extent GDPR/UK GDPR nonetheless applies, note that in this release jot'd processes no personal data on its servers — your data is stored and controlled on your own device — and you retain the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (UK: ICO).
jot'd·food is not intended for anyone under 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from users under 16. Consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from any child under 13; if we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a user under 16 is using the app, please contact us at support@justjotd.com. A parent or guardian who believes a child under 13 has provided personal information can contact us at that address, and we will delete it.
If we make material changes, we will notify you at least 14 days before they take effect (where we have a way to reach you). We will never change this policy in a way that retroactively weakens your data rights, or permits uses of your data not covered when you started using the app, without your explicit consent.
